Pastor's Letter - May 12, 2019

The Fourth Sunday of Easter is traditionally known as “Good Shepherd Sunday” because of the theme of the Scripture readings. Because the Lord continues to call men to serve as “Good Shepherds” of His flock, this is also the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Given the regular focus in the press during the past several years about the moral failings of a number of priests and bishops in our country, we need prayers more than ever: for all our priests and bishops, for those studying in the seminary, and for young men who may be called to the priesthood. Though all Christians are called to live a holy life, priests and bishops will inevitably be held to a higher standard of conduct both by lay Catholics and by the secular culture. Please join the whole Church in a special way on this World Day of Prayer for Vocations in praying that the Lord will raise up holy and faithful men who will courageously answer His call of service in His Church as priests. And pray for our Bishop William Callahan, for all our priests in the Diocese of La Crosse, for our Diocesan seminarians who are discerning the priestly vocation, and for your pastor.

With great joy I welcome Msgr. Joseph Hirsch to SSPP! Msgr. Hirsch is the director of Casa Hogar in Peru, an orphanage sponsored by the Diocese of La Crosse. Founded by Fr. Joe Walijewski (whose cause for sainthood is being promoted) Casa Hogar serves as a true home and refuge for hundreds of children who would otherwise be living on the streets. Msgr. Hirsch is well known to many people in WI Rapids, since he served as Chaplain at Assumption High School a few years back. He will inform you of his work at Casa Hogar and ask for your support. Please consider a generous gift to help him carry out this most important mission of the Church!

May God bless you! Fr. Schaller
