From the Desk of Fr. Schaller - March 22, 2020

Our Lord frequently made use of material things in order to teach a spiritual message. In today’s Gospel he uses the occasion of meeting (and healing) a man born blind to teach us to “see” with eyes of faith. “There is no one so blind as the person who will not see,” i.e., the person who chooses not to see. Lent is such a great time for spiritual renewal. And the Church enriches our experience of Lent by selecting for our reflection some of the most startling Gospel accounts. Last Sunday, today, and next Sunday, the Church draws from the Gospel of John with the stories of the “Woman at the Well”, the “Man born Blind”, and the “Raising of Lazarus”. I encourage you to spend some extra time today to read carefully these Gospel accounts, especially today’s Gospel of the “Man born Blind”. If we observe times of quiet prayer – alone with God – He will help us see where we have wandered from the Truth. Pray that the Lord may open your eyes to see the fullness of the Truth to which he is calling you.

I’m sure all have heard by now that Bishop William Callahan has cancelled all Masses in the Diocese of La Crosse beginning Friday, March 20, and extending for an indefinite time. I will still celebrate daily Mass (privately) for the specific intentions requested already, and for the needs of our parishioners, the whole Church, and the needs of all the world. Governor Evers has forbidden assemblies of more than 10 people. To observe the letter as well as spirit of the law we have cancelled all parish events & meetings as well. As I write this, we are making plans to best respond to these sudden changes and challenging times. Please review this bulletin for information, and especially to our parish website and Facebook page for updated info and spiritual resources. Our church will be open daily from 7am until 7pm so that the faithful may stop in to pray. I have an updated and expanded confession schedule. Finally, I will offer the Saturday 4:30pm and Sunday 10am Mass on an Altar set up under the church carport (outside the Holy Family Cenacle). The faithful can then park their cars in our church lot and view the Mass safely from within their cars. We live in interesting times. Be not afraid! You are all in my prayers, especially when I celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

May God bless you!
Fr. Schaller
