From the Desk of Fr. Schaller - September 6, 2020

“No man is an island.” The English poet John Donne wrote those words nearly 400 years ago. They express a truth found also in the Sacred Scriptures, especially in today’s readings. None of us lives in a vacuum; rather we are bound together by our common humanity. And much more than that, we are bound together by our Faith, by Baptism. We are truly responsible for each other. This is most easily seen within the family, where parents take care of their children and children watch out for each other. This also provides the motive for evangelization. We need to do all we can to bring others to know, love, and serve God, and to live the Faith. Out of love for others, we should assist them with their physical needs, and teach them in word and action the moral and spiritual truths of our Faith.

All of our parishioners should have received (or will receive soon) a letter from me which addresses how our parish has had to adapt to circumstances these last 6 months, and particularly on the substantial change we are making to our Religious Education program (commonly known as “CCD”). The isolation which so many individuals and families have experienced during this time has created no small amount of stress. As your pastor, I want to do all I can to strengthen the bonds within families, and among our families. Therefore, we are introducing our Family Faith Formation this Fall. We will host monthly gatherings of our families - parents with their children - at which I will meet with the parents, and the children will meet with their catechists. My letter contains more details. And our first Family Faith Formation night on Wednesday, September 16, will provide a fuller explanation and experience for our families. I know that this is a big change. Please pray that our Family Faith Formation will strengthen our families and our parish!

May God bless you!
Fr. Schaller
